Karl, Abubakar and Sigurd headed to the Greek island of Spetses for the jointly organized Summer School “Cancer Epigenetics: Principles, Applications and Single-Cell Resolution.” A great mix of science, discussions and networking in a setting that is pretty hard to beat. Abubakar also won one of the poster awards — with the added “prize” of giving a talk on his systematic genetic screens for novel heterochromatin factors.

Spetses really is an ideal place for a summer school. It just takes a full day to get there. Among the less scientific highlights was an early-morning run starting at 4 a.m. — presumably the only sensible time for running in the Greek summer. Two particularly determined runners even made it all the way around the island: roughly 25 km (!). Definitely one way to earn breakfast.
